I first attended the Property Investor Show when I was working for another buy to let property company called Assetz for Investors back in 2010!
15 years later, I was back at the show for what must nearly be my 20th time. But this time I was exhibiting my own company, Sacks Properties. It felt such an honour and it reminded me what an incredible journey I’ve been on.
The Property Investor Show is held at London Excel twice a year and it’s a great opportunity to meet existing investors, attract new investors and also network with fellow industry professionals.
Using all my experience, I had a pretty clear vision on the type of stand I wanted, the things we needed to do and the things we most certainly didn’t need to do. For example, spending £50,000 upwards on a huge stand at the very front is just intimidating to most investors and is completely unnecessary. We took a 4m x 3m stand and our Marketing Manager Ashley came up with a fantastic design that showed off some deals I’ve done in the last few years and some new deals we have available currently.
It was also great to see some old and new faces in the industry. Fellow agents, mortgage brokers, developers and investors I’ve known for many years. It was a reminder that your reputation counts for so much and the way you treat and speak to people is so important. I even bumped into a guy who runs a furnishing company I haven’t seen in at least 5 years who said he would furnish the next show home we do for free as a loss leader to win my business. I couldn’t believe it.
I also did a presentation on both days which I decided to title, ‘How I made a million pounds and lost a million pounds in property’. I was really nervous to choose this title but I pride myself on my transparency and honesty and over the last 15 years of investing I have made a lot of money and lost a lot of money.
Also, the show was full of agents and I bet less than 10% of them put their money where their mouth is and actually invest in property. Whereas I have transacted on around £20m worth of property so at least I do as I preach.
After a fantastic first day at the show the team and I wrapped up with an evening meal along with Amy Schofield and April Boyes from Together Money. There’s a Chinese restaurant next door, banquet style with turn tables which I’ve been going to for years. Normally I’m not a fan of sitting over dinner for hours on end but this was an exception as the conversation flowed so well and we had such a good laugh together. Amy and April have carved out excellent careers in the industry and they were such great personalities to welcome into our group for the evening.
With our website now live and the show out of the way, we move on to the next phase of our development.
